Introduction to Portable Fire Extinguisher and Carbon Dioxide Cylinder Servicing

Portable fire extinguisher servicing is a technical task which must comply with AHJ regulations, NFPA 10, and manufacturer’s service manuals to assure readiness, functionality, and reduce potential liability. Understanding procedures and being able to apply them correctly is the responsibility of the extinguisher technician. The LECTURE portion of this class will review NFPA requirements for annual servicing, internal maintenance, and hydrostatic testing procedures of portable fire extinguishers. Students will also be introduced to servicing concepts related to high pressure cylinders, specifically Carbon Dioxide. The HANDS-ON portion of class will reinforce these skills by performing a complete internal maintenance and hydrostatic test procedure on a dry chemical extinguisher.
